2nd summary

In second week, we read Ted Nelson’s, deep hypertext: the xanadu model and Engelbart’s, augmenting human intellect. Before we discussed about the articles, we talked about what are the digital media which can’t be defined in one thing because there are vast of things that are belong to digital media. We also saw a video clip that is done in method of “cut-ups.” It was a video that had scenes that kept changing but actually having only one story. To me, it was very odd but it was also interesting. We also learned about hypertext, which also has a wide range. It is a little different from hyperlink. Hyperlink is linked to just one specific webpage while hypertext can be linked to any kind. In conclusion, hypertext is one way that digital media has been understood is as new forms of writing, reading and thinking.
Then, we had a look at who is Engelbart. He is best known for inventing the computer mouse, windows, e-mail, and the word processor. Now days, these are one of the “MUST HAVE ITEM” in using computer. If we didn’t have those things, it would have been very difficult and bothering to use computer as we have to do all the process in keyboard. He is the one who wrote “Augmenting human intellect.” He developed the use of computers and networks to help cope with the world's increasingly more urgent and complex problems.

I couldn’t write about dramatis personae and narrative strategies because I couldn’t quite understand them. But the more and more I get to study this subject, I find it very interesting and fun. Learning about the history of computer is exciting as it is unfamiliar. It is a little shame that the lecture is in English because it is a little hard to understand compared to Korean lecture. But I think it will get better when I get used to it.
