This week’s main lecture was about social networks. And the key points was that new media technologies usually reinforce existing social networks or even work to isolate people (BUT) when new media technologies facilitate new social networks, they simultaneously challenge existing social, political and economic relationships. Like email or messenger like MSN, NATEON they connect people but in other sense they also isolate people because physically there are the person and the computer only as we don’t have to see each other.
Social networks as science, physicians and mathematicians have made a huge contribution in understanding networks by using diagrams. And the network will affect me, every individual. Social capital is the central of the network and it is very important. If we don’t have it, we won’t have structure and we would e all scattered. Actually, there would be no networks.
Google that links the webpages and Amazon that recommends the buyer similar subject of the book and other customer’s choices is social networks as technology. It is very interesting how they know the taste of the customers and connects other people’s taste.
Social networks as art, people at first time drew it by hands, but these days, people use computers to draw them as it is getting more complicated and it looks neat. Art is contributing in how to show the diagrams.
Social network was very interesting because I didn’t thought it was connected to the computer, I thought it was a topic that would be discussed in society class. Also the diagrams were really helped in understanding the lecture. Actually we also learned about social networks as history and popular culture but I didn’t follow them all.
